Raleigh TRIVIA!

Hi all,

The following information is provided to our Kindermusik convention attendees by Diane Colin and Julia Cobley, Kindermusik maestros who live and work in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. Diane Colin is pictured on the left (isn't she cute?!). Be on the lookout for a pix of Julia in a future post!

Did you know . . .

  • Raleigh lies in east-central North Carolina, where the hilly Piedmont region meets the flat coastal plain.

  • Raleigh was founded in 1792 as North Carolina's capital city.

  • It was named for Sir Walter Raleigh, who attempted to establish the first English colony on the shores of the new world in the 1580s.

  • Raleigh is only state capital to have been planned and established by a state as the seat of state government.

  • The city's founding fathers called Raleigh the "City of Oaks," and dedicated themselves to maintaining the area's wooded tracts and grassy parks.

  • Raleigh is the largest city in a metropolitan area known as the Research Triangle. RTP stands for Research Triangle Park and is home to many large corporations including Glaxo-Smith-Kline Pharmaceuticals, IBM, Reichold Chemicals, UNC TV and Research Triangle Institute.
